Nick: The Movie is an 2020 live-action/animated hybrid film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The film is based on the 1979 company/tv
channel Nickelodeon. The film follows Dakota Fanning sent into a portal to the Nicktoons Dimension where she gets help from SpongeBob SquarePants, Jenny Wakeman, Timmy Turner and various other Nickelodeon characters to stop the world from being destroyed.
Synopsis
After getting lost in a technology dactory, a girl named Ariana gets sent into a portal to the Nicktoons Dimension where she gets help from SpongeBob SquarePants, Jenny Wakeman, Timmy Turner and various other Nickelodeon characters to stop the world from being destroyed by an evil robot named Rythmn Bot.
Plot
A man / robot named Rythmn Bot is shown putting a secret device on something that detonates in three days. He then laughs psyhic as the screen zooms in to show the logo, Nick: The Movie. The next day, a girl named Ariana then wakes up from her bed, brushes her teeth, eats breakfast and then goes to school. Her friend Adam then tells her about the new upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants movie that is releasing this year with Ariana saying that’s just for kids. After school, her and her friends then sneak into a secret technology factory. Ariana then gets lost and accidentally falls into a big hole which is a portal. She then falls down in a mysterious city only to see herself animated.
She then suddenly sees Timmy Turner. She thinks that Timmy is only an illusion but Jimmy pulls her up and down and realizes that he isn’t an illusion. She then sees various other Nickelodeon characters like SpongeBob, Danny, Cosmo, Plankton, Patrick, Jenny Wakeman, and various other Nickelodeon characters. SpongeBob then explains to her that the world is about to be destroyed by an evil robot and they need her help to stop it. Ariana then says that she is going to leave but Cosmo then teleports her back saying that she won’t leave until she helps them. She then agrees to help them with Timmy having an idea to meet at the Nickelodeon H.Q. at 12:00.
At 12:00, all the Nickelodeon characters have a meeting with Timmy Turner explaining the plan and he forgets about the plan. Everyone is soon shown crying about the fact that they will be destroyed. Ariana then tries to leave but Wanda then raps her around a rope, putting her on a chair saying that she still won’t leave until she helps them. She then brings up an idea and secretly tells it to everyone until the next day. Adam, Mike, and Gene then call the cops as in to know that Ariana is missing. They then accidentally fall in the hole (cliché) and finds themselves in the city animated. They then see Ariana with the Nickelodeon characters with Sandy suggesting that they are her friends. As Gene is about to question the fact that those are actual Nickelodeon characters, Ariana stops him to tell him that they have a bigger problem not mentioning that Nickelodeon characters are alive. Ariana then tells them the plan that they will dress up as robots in the Rythmn World.
Ariana, Gene, Joey, Adam, and the Nickelodeon characters then dress up as robots. The guards at the door then say they look nothing like robots until Sandy knocks them out and they enter the company only to see millions of robots being enslaved by Rythmn Bot. SpongeBob is then shown wearing an ridiculous outfit. An robot then sees him and thinks that he’s an real robot. As the bomb detonates in two days, the Nickelodeon characters then get caught and put in a cage and Ariana then does a facepalm before she, Adam, Mike, and Gene get put in the cells too. The next day, the bomb is about to detonate.
Timmy asks why Cosmo and Wanda can’t use their magic to get out of here, but he later finds out that their wands have been taken. Ariana then sees a saw and then cuts open a tiny little of the vent but she realizes that not all of the characters can fit through the vent and helps them. She then sees two enslaved robots named Joey and Woody who agree to help them on their plan only if they free them and the other enslaved robots. She agrees to free them and the other enslaved robots and takes SpongeBob, Lincoln, Jenny, Adam, and Gene on her quest. They then encounter a group of evil robots and spend two minutes fighting them, later freeing the enslaved robots, flooding the entire factory (with the Nickelodeon characters and Joey escaping).
They then get an Rythmn Bot clapping with people not noticing why he isn’t mad about seeing his company destroyed. He then tells them that the bomb is about to detonate in three minutes and they better hurry. He then turns into a giant robot, with Patrick holding him off (instead getting beating up) and the others going inside the flooded, destroyed factory to turn off the bomb. The enslaved robots, Joey, Woody, and the other Nickelodeon characters hold off Rythmn Bot, Ariana, and the others then try to turn off the bomb before it explodes in one minute. Sandy then sees a button that looks like the skin color of the machine and then presses it, causing the machine to turn off. The others then celebrate and then run out of the factory as Rythmn Bot falls in it, defeating him and sending him out of the Nickelodeon universe.
The Nickelodeon Characters (including Joey, Woody, and the enslaved robots) thank Ariana, Adam, Mike, and Gene for their help and then get sent bsck to their own universe where Ariana, Nick, Mike, and Gene get reunited with their parents. With them living an happily ever after.

Production
Development
In 2016, plans for a Nickelodeon crossover movie was announced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Many characters would be in the movie with Alex Hirsch as the animation director with various people in the animation Department. The screenplay was done by Chris Columbus, Rob Renzetti, Butch Hartman, and Derek Drymon. The creators of the various shows (except for Drymon and Columbus).
Casting
Kyle L. Joseph was announced as the casting director in 2019 with Dakota Fanning, Mike Mitchell, Justin Long, Ty Simpkins, Sean Giambrone, and Jace Norman as the main characters with Tom Kenny, Janice Kawaye, Rodger Bumpass, David Kaufman, and various other people reprising their roles as Nickelodeon characters.
